Karen was just 48 when she died of cancer. She had recovered from breast cancer in 2018 and 2021 and was shocked when in late August a scan showed the same cancer had infected her liver and other organs. She passed away less than three weeks later.

Her imagination, inventiveness, organisational ability and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by all of her friends, colleagues and, most of all her family.

Your contribution to fund research and support for those affected by this cruel disease will be most appreciated.

If I could star in a film then I would like to be Marty Mcfly in Back to the Future. If they were to remake that classic film then Marty would be travelling back in 1993. I would want to be in that film not to change the past but to meet again Karen Dyckson. I feel very privileged to have spent 2 years with Karen at Swansea university getting to know her and it’s with great sadness I am travelling to her thanksgiving service today. Memories of events with Karen at university seem a long time ago and remembering specifics is difficult, however I do remember how she made me and all our friends feel - her wonderful friendship, caring, loving nature and just a great person to have a cider and black with and the university bar. Hearing last Saturday all the wonderful and amazing things that Karen went on to do as a wife, mother, daughter and friend to everyone in Canada didn’t surprise me and what a wonderful person and life she had. Rest in peace Karen - until we meet again.
